Your favorite old school ride in your possession: Tim Judge Hutch Pro Racer The Ultimate BMX Bike
Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I already Have It.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I started racing in 1981 at an indoor track in Mchigan City Indiana. I was immediately hooked and started practicing and racing 2-3 per week. I raced under the sponsorship of Calumet City Schwinn in Illinois. I turned expert after about 13 months of racing and Hutch picked me up as a Co-Sponsor. That was very cool!! I raced mostly in Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan and once in Minnesota. My highest ABA ranking in Indiana was 35 and that's where I finished back in 1984. The local tracks closed down and the nearest one was over 3 hours away, so unfortunately that put an end to my racing. Although recently a sanctioned track opened in Portage, IN which is 20 minutes from my house so my interest is started to rise again. This is a great web site and it brings back alot of great memories. Thanks!!!!!!!

Basically your prime NorCal bike - just like Brent's. Matter of fact I bought the frame and forks off of Ronnie and Richie Anderson's dad at Vallejo PAL BMX track for $50. Prior to the current bar and stem I used Redline Victory bars and a Cook double clamp and later an angled double clamp - still got 'em too.

I never became an expert but I was sponsored for a short time by a northern Cal. bicycle distributor - Javelot. I was very fast but I stashed a bunch, a ton. Wasn't much for turning. My favorite tracks were McClearen Park, San Francisco(my home track) and Rheem Valley, Lafeyete,Ca. I really miss BMXA. I saved all my issues from no. 1 to about 1982, I have them all.I'd love to go see some racing now maybe do a 24" race. I'd love to meet some old timers and shoot the breeze here in So. Cal.

Favorite Childhood BMX Hero: I have several as far as BMX racing. Eric Rupe, Travis Chipres, and Charles Townsend. For freestyle it would be Eddie Fiola, Martin Apirijo, Brian Blyther. I never was a fan of racing as a little kid. But started racing in 89, and made it to superclass by 93. I love racing now, but a big fan of the old school freestyle as well.
Favorite Modern Day BMX Hero: Well a close friend to me is Matt Pohlkamp, so he is a given. He has worked hard to accomplish what he has. Other than that I coudn't name just one. So many of the pros were always really cool, and always were giving me some parts and helping me out on the track. So it's not fair to just have one. Gary Ellis would be one of my least favorites though.
Occupation: I am a CNC machinist
Family: It's just me and my wife Brandi.
Your favorite Old School ride in your possession: As of right now I have none. I had a Patterson,JMC,Kuwahara, and a race inc. All wich were stolen out my parents garage last year.
Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I am looking for some for some bikes to buy and restore.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: My name is Travis Blank. I started riding the very first day that my eyes wondered through a BMX Plus mag. I was about 12yrs old. Up till then I was always building jumps out of anything I could find. After that I had bought me a GT pro performer and rode freestyle, then later at about 15 started racing in the NBL and made it to super class in 1993

Favorite Modern Day BMX Hero: There are so many people riding today, and they change teams so often, I can't remember who's who or who's riding for who.
Occupation: journalist
Family: I live with my girlfriend and my cat.
Your favorite old school ride in your possession: 1999 PK Ripper, 1999 Quadangle
Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I already have it -- my PK Ripper. I plan to build out my Quadangle to match it.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I raced BMX and rode freestyle before there was a difference. My friends and I took plywood scraps from construction sites to build jumps and half-pipes. When we could get in, we rode in skateparks. When I started out, "dirt bikes" looked like motorcycles without engines -- and they were just about as heavy. I gave up BMX for almost 15 years, but last year I rediscovered the passion after buying a 24-inch cruiser. Then I saw that Dan’s Comp still had new PK Rippers in stock, and being a former SE-head, I got one while I still could. It took me about eight months to build it part-by-part, but now I have the bike of my dreams. Lots of the Ripper’s parts aren’t old-school (like the rear V-brakes, the non-threaded Landing Gear forks and the stem), but I like these new parts because they’re lighter or work better for me. To continue my obsession, I recently got an aluminum Quadangle frame and Landing Gear forks that have never been ridden. I’m going to salvage as many parts as I can from my cruiser for the Quad, and then slowly build it out to match my Ripper. After that, who knows? In my former life riding BMX (counting backwards), I rode a chrome Patterson (with Z-Rims), a chromoly Quadangle (that originally was red, but I later painted white and then had chrome-plated), a red Torker (that I broke), and a red Schwinn Mag Scrambler -- box-bars, Ashtabula forks and all.

Miscellaneous stuff about you: Started racing around '82 in the western MD area. (Corriganville, Jeffs Freeway BMX in Frostburg, MD) My first bike was a department store special then I saved up enough money to buy a powder blue Thruster Tri Power standrd that a friend had. Raced that for a year then got a sweet '84 GT Pro model that I raced in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Not long after that I made the mistake of trading it for the first yellow GT Performer that came into town. After realizing my mistake, I decided that since I always like the old school Murray team, I'd try to build the bike Scott Clarke had in the Murray test issue of BMx Action. A year later, I had the best handling bike I've ever ridden. I raced it for about three years (never doing well at South Park nations) then hung it up in the garage. A couple of years later I sold it to my cousin and now there is no trace of it. So--, I now trying to get my hands on a chromoly X24 with Bottema forks. If I get them, I'll start racing again.

The 31-35 cruiser class (my class) is consistenly the larges and most competative class at the tracks. Turn outs for the States and Gold cups have been huge. In April 1999 the Goveners cup brought almost 400 riders and over 80 motos to Mollala Oregon for an indoor event. The rate of new rate of new ABA members is increaseing at the local Portland area tracks. Stay tuned to your local seen.

Miscellaneous stuff about you: I started racing in about '83 and then started freestyling (ramps) in about '86. In late '86 I began skating also. Back in those days, you were considered a poser, a sellout, or both, if you did or claimed to do both (skating and BMX) but...I did it anyway. I was on a local freestyle team in '86 but it folded pretty quickly. Then in '96 the fever came back and I started riding again doing mostly dirt jumping. Does anybody have any info on what RL Osborn is doing nowadays? Thanks and God bless.

Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: Floval Flyer, There was this older kid at the local track with one, it was mint! I don't think that thing was ever dirty. Not that he didn't ride hard, but after a day at the track he went home and cleaned it up. I am currently trying to track him down to see if he still has it. My fingers are crossed!
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I thank god that I grew up when I did, the late 70's and the 80's what a time. There is something special about being part of the birth of BMX. Growing up in Minnesota, BMX didn't really catch on in my small town until about 1984. But thanks to a friend whose dad was on the city council and was tired of driving the 4 hours back and forth to the closest track, there was a track built in our town. It was crazy how many kids were there the first few years. But the track never did get any organized races going and it wasn't long before people started getting hurt and the track was tore down. But the birth of freestyle was just around the corner. Most of the local "racers" put axle pegs and rotors on our bikes and gave that a try. A local kid (Tim H.) formed a freestyle team that performed at area fairs and parades (I think the parade idea came from RAD.) After that came the 90's and the down fall of the hair bands, the end of an era. I never realized how much I missed riding a BMX bike until I satrted again, some of my old friends laugh a little when I tell them that I started racing again, but as soon as they stop laughing they always ask for directions to the track, "just to check it out" I always tell them that you don't need to be a teenager to ride a BMX bike.

Miscellaneous stuff about you: Glad to have found this site. Brings back a lot of memories for me as I was growing up in a small Wisconsin town. Nobody ever gave BMX much of a chance. A lot of my brother's friends were into it, so if it wasn't for them I would've never been into it. Never had a bike shop in town so I was very limited to what I could buy. The nearest bike shop was over an hour away. So I did the next best thing, mail order from my favorite place, ROCKVILLE BMX from Maryland. Had a HARO freestyler Master during high school. Once out of school I switched my interests to auto racing. So I shipped the HARO down the road. Worst thing I've ever done. Good news is the person I sold it to still has it, or at least they did two years ago. I will be looking for them to see if they still have it. Hope to restore the SCHWINN for my son.

When I quit racing BMX I went into Speedway motorcycles. I raced at Ascot, Costa Mesa, San Berdoo and Victorville. I made it into the Second Division and won several races. Currently I'm racing cars. I started out in "modified midgets" now I'm racing full scale Midgets. (It's cool you don't have to peddle and you can sit down) If there are any people from the past feel free to E-me !!

I was pretty stoked the year my mom got me a Thruster jersey, matching JT pants, and a matching Echo helmet. But shortly thereafter I got really into my guitar and gave up on racing. Miscellaneous stuff about you: Well, I was born and raised in Dallas, TX. I started riding in 1980 when I was 6 and was fully enthralled with BMX by the time I was 10. I only raced a few times at Ft. Worths Cowtown track. I was a little self conscious at that time, which kept me from racing on a full time basis. Although, I did not race often I was on my bike 24/7. My first bike was a blue Team Mongoose. My second bike was a 1984 Diamond Back Silver Streak. My most memorable moments were on this Bike. In the late eighties I rode an old Cookes Bros. Cruiser, A Redline Proline, and a Redline Cruiser. Unfortunately, none of these rides are with me today. Two of them were stolen and I sold the rest. I went to college at The University of North Texas and I now live in Colorado and run my own company. Right now I ride a Specialized Cruiser and am wanting to find and restore an old bike. I hope you guys welcome me into your club and I hope I can contribute in some regard.

Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I own the bikes I always dreamed about having. They are both complete and just need a couple of finishing touches.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I started riding in the early eighties, just when Haro was making their first freestyle bike. I am from the Bronx, and there were no bmx tracks anywhere near my house so I turned to freestyle. I did that religiously for years before getting burned out. About a year and a half ago, I got the bmx fever again and bought a cruiser and raced for the first time. Of course I loved it and have been racing ever since. Shortly after racing a few months, I began feeling my freestyle roots again and entered a Matt Hoffman freestlye comp a month or two ago on my 1987 NOS Strike Zone. I love riding today more than I ever have and can't wait until there is an 'old fart' class in freestlye competions. Ride to live, live to ride, I am a soul rider till the day I die!

Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: A totally stock Diamond Back Silver Streak, or any stock P.K. Ripper.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I'm a chick that digs BMX. I have some old pix of me with my crap bike from Shucks that I took apart and put 3-piece Shimano gold cranks on, Kashimax seat with gold post, GT grips. Gooseneck, rims, on and on. I used to take that thing apart and remove every speck of dirt, put it back together, ride it like hell all over the place, and do it again. My walls didn't have any space that wasn't covered with BMX pix. My dad wasn't into letting my race. When he finally broke down, they demolished the track a couple weeks afterward. I still dig BMX big-time and I love freestyle! I would have married Ron Wilkerson if he would have had me. Also, I play in bands. Extreme metal (actually sing) ,played bass in a melodic, East-coast sounding trio, and now moving on to electronic enhanced stuff. I skate, scooter(Mongoose Pro, not those little crap ones), and have my eye on a couple new bikes I'd like to have. We'll see. Guess I need a job first

Favorite Modern Day BMX Hero: Anyone who rides a bike. I have a lot of repsect for huys that have been racing for 15 or 20 years and are still out there every weekend.
Occupation: Accountant
Family:
Favorite old school rides in your possession: I have a JMC Andy Patterson frameset (#AP123) that I raced occasionally and rode constantly from 1985 - 1990. I purchased the bike from Chuck Hooper when he had his bike shop. I finally had to retire the frame when cracks began to appear where the seat stays meet the top tube. Otherwise, I'd probably be riding it today!
Your dream bike you'd like to have some day: Anthing JMC or SE
Miscellaneous stuff about you: Reading the interviews made me realize what a big part of my life BMXA was when I was growing up. Although I've always loved riding my bike, I didn't start racing until 1982. I've never had much success on the track and I haven't raced much in the last few years, but I'm always thinking about a comeback!

Favorite Childhood BMX Hero: My friend Brian Beverage, he was my hero. Then I suppose Andy Ruffell (U.K) he was O.K I guess.
Favorite Modern Day BMX Hero: Not sure about all the new guys, I'm not to up to date with the modern riders.... but I think anyone out there my age or above still riding, deserves some form of worship.. Good on you Guys (and girls).
Occupation: Support/Project co ordinator
Family: (How much space have I got) Married to Karen, have 4 kids...craig (10), Albany (4), Indiana (21/2) and a little baby girl Ellena (3wks).. Man,.. I really need to get out more..!
Favorite old school rides in your possession: I still have my E.T Kuwahara that I got when I was 11 years old, I rode it for 7 years and absolutely loved it. It's going through a complete restoration at the moment. I also have a Diamond Back Silver Streak that I picked up last Summer, that's also in line for a refurb..
Your dream bike you'd like to have some day: Love to return my Kuwahara to it's former glory (where can I get a frame decal set-and a pad set-and an Elina seat-and ??????). I'd also love to get hold of a Kuwahara Laser Lite, this was the only other bike that I drooled over as a kid.. I guess I wanted one because no one that I knew had one... Frame and forks will do... anything...
Miscellaneous stuff about you: Got into BMX when I was 10, got my Kuwahara when I was 11 (3rd BMX)and that was it, the amount of abuse that I gave that bike, it's a wonder that I still have it. I have only recently got back in to the BMX thing and I would love to get back on to a track again. (my wife seems to thing that I'm going thru a mid life crisis early.!) Unfortunately where I live at the moment that isn't going to happen soon, I'm looking to move to the South of the Country though where BMX still has a very strong appeal.... I'm getting into the restoration thing too, (strictly old school) it's suprising what you can pick up for next to nothing at fairs and garage type sales. I wonder what happened to all my friends bikes....... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Plus the guys I race now are fat and weight more when they fall on you in a corner..Anyway I finished #5 IL my first year back! Your favorite old school ride in your possession: My 1983 GT Std Series frame and fork. Still have the original UKAI rims, Kashimax Aero seat, Tuff-neck stem, and GT standard bars on it. It's sitting in my cellar begging to have tires put on it and be ridden again. Still have my sister's Profile Mini sitting in the shed too. I sold my Free Agent cruiser to the kid next door who ended up trashing it. I think I know where the frame and fork is, though.
Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I always wanted an SE Quadangle. Always. One of the new GT full suspension mountain bikes.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: Miss racing bigtime, but I broke my legs in the early 90's and was never the same. I took a rip down the track that they set up at Woodstock '99 and thought I was going to kill myself. That ended any comeback hopes. It was my first time back on a 20" in a very long time. I quit racing around 1988 because I got my license and got into cars. In 1985, I had the #4 Massachusetts state plate in 13 expert. My sister Brooke was 7 years old that year and had the #2 plate in the girl's class. I also remember racing indoors at Northampton Massachusetts during winters and seeing Rob Lincourt (National #1) show up out of the blue. Then I realized to my horror that he was right next to me on my gate. I came in second. Man that guy was fast. It's real good to see a bunch of old school dudes here.
