not honoring my protest that I didn't get first place). BMX has
given me lots of memories that I will cherish forever.

Hutch Pro Racer The Ultimate BMX Bike
Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I already Have
It.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I started racing in 1981 at
an indoor track in Mchigan City Indiana. I was immediately hooked
and started practicing and racing 2-3 per week. I raced under the
sponsorship of Calumet City Schwinn in Illinois. I turned expert
after about 13 months of racing and Hutch picked me up as a Co-Sponsor.
That was very cool!! I raced mostly in Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan
and once in Minnesota. My highest ABA ranking in Indiana was 35
and that's where I finished back in 1984. The local tracks closed
down and the nearest one was over 3 hours away, so unfortunately
that put an end to my racing. Although recently a sanctioned track
opened in Portage, IN which is 20 minutes from my house so my interest
is started to rise again. This is a great web site and it brings
back alot of great memories. Thanks!!!!!!!

appearing in the near future. I also do most of the Scottish stuf

frame with Speedo forks and Phil Wood hubs and Campy cranks with
a Cook Brothers bottom bracket, CW handle bars and a Tuff Neck,
the seat post clamp is a PLME or later known as Laguna BMX clamp.
Basically your prime NorCal bike - just like Brent's. Matter of
fact I bought the frame and forks off of Ronnie and Richie Anderson's
dad at Vallejo PAL BMX track for $50. Prior to the current bar and
stem I used Redline Victory bars and a Cook double clamp and later
an angled double clamp - still got 'em too.

Miscellaneous stuff about you: I love old BMX. Down hills
were the best tracks to race on. I never became an expert but I
was sponsored for a short time by a northern Cal. bicycle distributor
- Javelot. I was very fast but I stashed a bunch, a ton. Wasn't
much for turning. My favorite tracks were McClearen Park, San Francisco(my
home track) and Rheem Valley, Lafeyete,Ca. I really miss BMXA. I
saved all my issues from no. 1 to about 1982, I have them all.I'd
love to go see some racing now maybe do a 24" race. I'd love to
meet some old timers and shoot the breeze here in So. Cal.

Favorite Childhood BMX Hero: I have several as far as BMX
racing. Eric Rupe, Travis Chipres, and Charles Townsend. For freestyle
it would be Eddie Fiola, Martin Apirijo, Brian Blyther. I never
was a fan of racing as a little kid. But started racing in 89, and
made it to superclass by 93. I love racing now, but a big fan of
the old school freestyle as well.
Favorite Modern Day BMX Hero: Well a close friend to me is
Matt Pohlkamp, so he is a given. He has worked hard to accomplish
what he has. Other than that I coudn't name just one. So many of
the pros were always really cool, and always were giving me some
parts and helping me out on the track. So it's not fair to just
have one. Gary Ellis would be one of my least favorites though.
Occupation: I am a CNC machinist
Family: It's just me and my wife Brandi.
Your favorite Old School ride in your possession: As of right
now I have none. I had a Patterson,JMC,Kuwahara,and a race inc.
All wich were stolen out my parents garage last year.
Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I am looking
for some for some bikes to buy and restore.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: My name is Travis Blank. I
started riding the very first day that my eyes wondered through
a BMX Plus mag. I was about 12yrs old. Up till then I was always
building jumps out of anything I could find. After that I had bought
me a GT pro performer and rode freestyle, then later at about 15
started racing in the NBL and made it to super class in 1993

Occupation: journalist

Your favorite old school ride in your possession: 1999 PK
Ripper, 1999 Quadangle
Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: I already have
it -- my PK Ripper. I plan to build out my Quadangle to match it.
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I raced BMX and rode freestyle
before there was a difference. My friends and I took plywood scraps
from construction sites to build jumps and half-pipes. When we could
get in, we rode in skateparks. When I started out, "dirt bikes"
looked like motorcycles without engines -- and they were just about
as heavy. I gave up BMX for almost 15 years, but last year I rediscovered
the passion after buying a 24-inch cruiser. Then I saw that Dans
Comp still had new PK Rippers in stock, and being a former SE-head,
I got one while I still could. It took me about eight months to
build it part-by-part, but now I have the bike of my dreams. Lots
of the Rippers parts arent old-school (like the rear
V-brakes, the non-threaded Landing Gear forks and the stem), but
I like these new parts because theyre lighter or work better
for me. To continue my obsession, I recently got an aluminum Quadangle
frame and Landing Gear forks that have never been ridden. Im
going to salvage as many parts as I can from my cruiser for the
Quad, and then slowly build it out to match my Ripper. After that,
who knows? In my former life riding BMX (counting backwards), I
rode a chrome Patterson (with Z-Rims), a chromoly Quadangle (that
originally was red, but I later painted white and then had chrome-plated),
a red Torker (that I broke), and a red Schwinn Mag Scrambler --
box-bars, Ashtabula forks and all.

Miscellaneous stuff about you: Started racing around '82
in the western MD area. (Corriganville, Jeffs Freeway BMX in Frostburg,
MD) My first bike was a department store special then I saved up
enough money to buy a powder blue Thruster Tri Power standrd that
a friend had. Raced that for a year then got a sweet '84 GT Pro
model that I raced in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Not long after
that I made the mistake of trading it for the first yellow GT Performer
that came into town. After realizing my mistake, I decided that
since I always like the old school Murray team, I'd try to build
the bike Scott Clarke had in the Murray test issue of BMx Action.
A year later, I had the best handling bike I've ever ridden. I raced
it for about three years (never doing well at South Park nations)
then hung it up in the garage. A couple of years later I sold it
to my cousin and now there is no trace of it. So--, I now trying
to get my hands on a chromoly X24 with Bottema forks. If I get them,
I'll start racing again.

got strong Frame, Axals, Rims, Crank, metal pedals, good brakes
and most importantly a comfortable seat that rides well!
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I like riding BMX (Street,
ramp/dirt) and designing web pages one which will soon be uploaded
all about skatin, skateboardin and most of all BMX. At the moment,
I am still in secondary school.

Miscellaneous stuff about you: Grew up riding BMX and Freestyle
in Canada in the mid 80's. From the first time I picked up a BMX
Action magazine (which I still have by the way) I was totally hooked.
I raced a little locally but freestyle was my fave. I spent hours
learning all the hot tricks of the day. The decade, whiplash, backyards,
and dabbled a little on vert and loved to coast across the deck
doing coaster wheelies. When I stopped riding the sport was in rapid
decline here, but now its getting huge again. I see all the kids
around town riding again and it's so cool.

(my class) is consistenly the larges and most competative class
at the tracks. Turn outs for the States and Gold cups have been
huge. In April 1999 the Goveners cup brought almost 400 riders and

Miscellaneous stuff about you: I started racing in about
'83 and then started freestyling (ramps) in about '86. In late '86
I began skating also. Back in those days, you were considered a
poser, a sellout, or both, if you did or claimed to do both (skating
and BMX) but...I did it anyway. I was on a local freestyle team
in '86 but it folded pretty quickly. Then in '96 the fever came
back and I started riding again doing mostly dirt jumping. Does
anybody have any info on what RL Osborn is doing nowadays? Thanks

Your dream bike you'd like to have someday: Floval Flyer,
There was this older kid at the local track with one, it was mint!
I don't think that thing was ever dirty. Not that he didn't ride
hard, but after a day at the track he went home and cleaned it up.
I am currently trying to track him down to see if he still has it.
My fingers are crossed!
Miscellaneous stuff about you: I thank god that I grew up
when I did, the late 70's and the 80's what a time. There is something
special about being part of the birth of BMX. Growing up in Minnesota,
BMX didn't really catch on in my small town until about 1984. But
thanks to a friend whose dad was on the city council and was tired
of driving the 4 hours back and forth to the closest track, there
was a track built in our town. It was crazy how many kids were there
the first few years. But the track never did get any organized races
going and it wasn't long before people started getting hurt and
the track was tore down. But the birth of freestyle was just around
the corner. Most of the local "racers" put axle pegs and
rotors on our bikes and gave that a try. A local kid (Tim H.) formed
a freestyle team that performed at area fairs and parades (I think
the parade idea came from RAD.) After that came the 90's and the
down fall of the hair bands, the end of an era. I never realized
how much I missed riding a BMX bike until I satrted again, some
of my old friends laugh a little when I tell them that I started
racing again, but as soon as they stop laughing they always ask
for directions to the track, "just to check it out" I
always tell them that you don't need to be a teenager to ride a
BMX bike.

Miscellaneous stuff about you: Glad to have found this site.
Brings back a lot of memories for me as I was growing up in a small
Wisconsin town. Nobody ever gave BMX much of a chance. A lot of
my brother's friends were into it, so if it wasn't for them I would've
never been into it. Never had a bike shop in town so I was very
limited to what I could buy. The nearest bike shop was over an hour
away. So I did the next best thing, mail order from my favorite
place, ROCKVILLE BMX from Maryland. Had a HARO freestyler Master
during high school. Once out of school I switched my interests to
auto racing. So I shipped the HARO down the road. Worst thing I've
ever done. Good news is the person I sold it to still has it, or
at least they did two years ago. I will be looking for them to see
if they still have it. Hope to restore the SCHWINN for my son.
