Northwest
Gathering 1999 Number 2
by Ben Joy
On
Sunday August 22, 1999 we got together again to show our old bikes.
This time it was in conjunction with the Oregon State Championships
in Molalla, Oregon.
As
always Ken Pliska did a great job of organizing the event. Early
on he set up a display tent in a prime location. We were about
40 yards from the starting gate so there was no ignoring the old
stuff! Many old schoolers stopped including Dave C (OLDBMXDC@aol.com).
(Note: Ben is on the left, Dave on the right)
I
would have to say the two biggest draws were the old photo albums
Ken brought out and the Yamaha Motobike. At the next event I am
going to charge $1 for every time I hear "I had a Yamaha Bike",
"I wanted a Yamaha bike" or "I raced at the Powerlite National
in 1981". If successful we will have no problem helping keep the
web site on the net!
We
had two restored Mongoose's on hand…
The
Redline 16" and Mono were sold at this event. They now belong
to SBS/Redline. Watch for them at Interbike in Las Vegas.
Jay
Graves Suzuki Works BMX. The proper equipment will soon be installed!
I
am still amazed how many Dad's claim to have had a Motobike.
You
know it's a good sign when you 2 year old wants to get in on the
act... BMW GS1100 trike all the way from Germany.
Other
items shown were a Decoster Frame with R&R hack, Patterson,
JMC F/F, Early 1980's Redline 24" F/F, Hutch F/F, dozens of Jerseys,
Helmets and number plates.
